Happy National Oatmeal Day!

October 29th is National Oatmeal Day.  This is celebrated annually on the same day.  Oatmeal is made from hulled oats called groats.  The scientific name for them is avena sativa.

Oats are among the healthiest grains available.  They are gluten-free and are full of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants.  There are also many health benefits to eating oats/oatmeal including:  weight loss, lowering blood sugar levels and reducing the risk of heart disease.

Eating them plain or with fresh fruit is the healthiest option.  However, if it is a texture or taste you’re trying to get used to, I would recommend Quaker Low-Sugar Flavored Oatmeal to start off.  During the Fall Season, I also like the Quaker Pumpkin Oatmeal!
